Cold Hard Truth About Pool Warranties

Cold Hard Truth About Pool Warranties

If you take a look at swimming pool contractor’s complaints with the Better Business Bureau or other consumer advocacy groups across America, you’ll find that one of the number one complaints is that contractors simply don’t make good on their warranties.

You see, nearly every Swimming Pool contractor offers “lifetime” warranties, and you’ll see the information regarding this warranty in the small print on the contract. But the truth of the matter is that it is not “lifetime” and it is usually not a true warranty.

So first let me tell you what actually happens when there is a warranty claim and then let me tell you what the best warranty for a swimming pool actually is.

What happens when there is a warranty claim?

The most common issue requiring a warranty claim is to have a crack in your pool shell. If you ever get in a situation where your pool is cracked, unfortunately the warranty is only going to matter if the pool contractor has integrity. For starters, if they are not in business anymore, then you’re out of luck. This is why it’s dangerous to do business with contractors who have a short history. Logan Pools has been around for over 40 years taking care of our customers.

But if your contractor is still in business, the most common tactic they use to avoid fulfilling their warranty is to just stall. Are you ready to make dozens of phone calls, emails, and personal contacts to have them never returned and never handled? It’s not fun.

Ultimately, you’ll have to hire an attorney and file a lawsuit. This process could take 3-5 years in the court because of the backup on consumer lawsuits in our court system. Usually homeowners just give up. Or, as is commonly said in the industry, “Your contractor will decide to honor your warranty on the courthouse steps.” In short, they don’t want to honor the warranty because they undersold you the pool design and construction in the first place.

The matter then gets even worse because the most common type of repair is for the contractor to simply put an ugly strip of epoxy over your crack, which technically seals the crack, but leaves your beautiful pool investment looking ugly and offensive. But legally, they can no longer be sued because they technically made good on their warranty, as described in the small print.

So how do you avoid this nightmare situation that is all too common in the pool construction industry? Well, the answer is simple—you have to make sure you get the very best bullet proof warranty that is available in the industry. And let me tell you what that is…

The best bullet proof warranty you can have is—to have your pool built to the highest possible standards in the first place and then your warranty will never come into play. It really is that simple. That is why at Logan Pools we build our pools based on the Proprietary Logan Pools Design Standard, which exceeds all engineering standards in the industry. We also exclusively offer our customers the protections listed in the Pool Owners Bill of Rights, and are the only company in our area which is certified by the Code of Ethics and Competency Guide for Pool Contractors.
